Phu Quoc is Vietnam's biggest island and its most visited beach destination — but it plays by slightly different rules when it comes to mobile data. Airport prices are the highest in the country, the north of the island still has genuine dead zones, and which network you pick actually matters. This guide covers everything you need to get online the smart way.
Quick answer
- Best network overall: Viettel — the only carrier with reliable signal in the north (Ganh Dau, VinWonders roads, National Park).
- Best value for resort stays: Vinaphone or MobiFone in Duong Dong, Long Beach and An Thoi.
- Best convenience: an eSIM installed before your flight, or a SIM delivered to your hotel.
- Avoid: buying at the airport kiosk if you can — you pay roughly 3× the town price.
SIM card prices in Phu Quoc (2026)
| Where | Typical plan | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Airport kiosk (PQC) | 10–20GB tourist bundle | ₫500,000–625,000 |
| Hotel reception | Varies | ₫300,000–500,000 |
| Official store, Duong Dong | 30GB / 30 days | ₫150,000–250,000 |
| PhuQuocSIM (delivered) | Vinaphone 5GB/day · 5 days | ₫200,000 |
Prices at the official Viettel stores on Nguyen Trung Truc street are the cheapest on the island, but they close at 20:00 and you need to get there. PhuQuocSIM delivers at the same town-level price to your hotel, so you save the trip and the airport markup.
Viettel vs Vinaphone vs MobiFone on Phu Quoc
In Duong Dong town, along Long Beach and around An Thoi all three networks give fast 4G, with 5G in parts of town. The difference is everywhere else:
- Viettel keeps signal on the northern coast road, at Ganh Dau, inside the National Park and on most island-hopping boats.
- Vinaphone is very fast in town and includes a Vietnamese phone number on tourist plans, but drops faster in remote coves.
- MobiFone is the cheapest per GB and fine for a resort-only trip, but is the weakest in the north.
What you need to buy a SIM
- Your original passport — every physical SIM in Vietnam must be registered.
- An unlocked phone (check with your home carrier before you travel).
- About 5 minutes for activation and a quick speed test.
Physical SIM or eSIM?
If your phone supports eSIM, it is the most convenient option: buy before you fly, scan a QR code, and you land with data already working. A physical SIM is better if your phone does not support eSIM, if you want a local number for Grab and Vietnamese banking OTPs, or if you are staying more than a month.
