An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of swapping a plastic card, you scan a QR code and the plan installs in a minute. For a Phu Quoc holiday it is the easiest way to avoid airport queues.
Is my phone eSIM compatible?
- iPhone XR, XS and newer (except mainland China models).
- Google Pixel 3 and newer.
- Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Z Fold and Z Flip series.
- Many Oppo, Xiaomi and Motorola flagships from 2022 onwards.
Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. On iPhone, check Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock; it should say “No SIM restrictions”.
How to install your Phu Quoc eSIM
- Order your eSIM and receive the QR code on WhatsApp or email.
- Connect to Wi-Fi at home and open Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM.
- Scan the QR code and label the line “Vietnam”.
- Keep the line off until you land, then switch mobile data to the Vietnam line and turn on data roaming for that line.
Which network should my eSIM use?
For Phu Quoc, choose an eSIM that runs on Viettel if you will explore the north or go island-hopping. Vinaphone eSIMs are excellent if you stay in Duong Dong, Long Beach or the south.
